It is with deep sorrow that I tell you about the death of David Lee Durham on this past Thursday. We all know that he was an incredible blues man. He touched the life of everyone that he met. Many have called me to offer condolences. What I keep hearing said is that David Lee Durham was a good man and it was a joy to have known him.
He was a wonderful man who gave of himself to everyone. He welcomed to the stage the seasoned performer and the beginner. David Lee Durham was all about others.
He died at home on Thursday morning January 24th of natural causes. When he dropped me off from a blues affair the night before he died, his thought was of getting some of his famous potato pies made for some visiting blues folks. I have been told that pies were in the oven as the ambulance brought David Lee to the hospital.
He was my dear friend and I will miss him. At this time, musicians are talking about having some blues benefits and memorials for David Lee. I will try to let you know what I know as these are announced. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 2nd, at 2 pm at Reverend Walker's Church on Church Street, Indianola Mississippi. I have no other address.
In the all the time that I have known David Lee he never failed to tell me when we parted "I will see you tomorrow if it is God's will".
